Small Business Success

small business successToday I want to look at an old post from 2007 by Seth Godin. Seth is know for his short, pithy posts, but I think this may be one of his shortest posts ever.
The Title of the post is Small Business Success.
The entire post is just 45 words, with a few numbers thrown in. I’ve used more than 45 words just as an intro to the post!

Three things you need:
1) the ability to abandon a plan when it doesn’t work,
2) the confidence to do the right thing even when it costs you money in the short run, and
3) enough belief in other people that you don’t try to do everything yourself.
~Seth Godin~

I’m not Seth Godin so I can’t just leave it at that!

There is an old saying that “winners never quit and quitters never win.” That is just a bunch of bunk. Success comes from knowing when to quit and move on to other things.

Number 2 is a hard one that I have encountered many times. Often doing the right thing is not doing the easy thing. You need to always do the right thing. It will pay off in the end.

You can’t do it all yourself. Believe me, I’ve tried! You are not good at everything. In fact, you suck at some things. Be Excellent at what you do and allow others to be excellent at what they do.
